Butterfly Silhouette

My blog has been a little quiet in the last few days. It is season here in Florida and so all of us in the hospitality industry are quite busy. I do have some projects lined up to show you in the next while though, so here we go.

I recently won the prize over at the Butterfly Challenge for creating a card using all the elements of the wheel and one part of my prize was this beautiful butterfly stamp. It came in the mail all the way across the pond.

I created the background by using Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide inks. I smooshed the ink pads onto my glass mat and then sprayed them with water. Once I had a nice puddle, I laid my paper into it. I used Canson XL Watercolor paper. Because of the interesting property that oxide ink has, I kept adding more layers of the liquid ink to my paper, drying the previous layer before doing so.

Once the background was done to my liking and it was dry, I cut it down to fit onto a black cardbase. I stamped the butterfly and my sentiment onto the bright background with Versafine Onyx Black ink.

I had great fun creating the background here and did a few more with other inks and watercolors too which I will be showing you on some more projects coming up in the next few days.

General supplies:
Canson XL Watercolor paper
Paperstudio cardbase and coordinating envelope
Distress Oxide inks
Stamps from my stash
Versafine Onyx black ink
