Mom’s Romeo

Today I have another card to show you. This one is my DT Specials choice over at Scrapper’s Delights and I chose to work with the Romeo in the Romeo Juliet bundle since I thought he would work so well with the Mother’s Day theme on the current challenge.

This card is another one that I designed completely in Silhouette Studio and uses digital paper from Lori Whitlock’s Fresh Air paper pack for the background. I imported Romeo into Silhouette studio and created a cutline for him. I used that cutline to add an offset and thus created the shadow matte. I created a card panel at 4.25×5.5 and filled it with the orange from the paper using the eyedropper tool to choose the color. I filled the shadow matte with a taupe color, also chosen from a stripe in the paper. I created another element sized at 4×5.5 and filled that with the digital paper and rotated the paper in the element so that the stripes were diagonal rather than the original horizontal orientation. I typed the sentiment onto the striped element and switched the cutline for the text off so that it would print but not cut.

I printed Romeo out onto Daler-Rowney drawing paper and the rest of the elements onto white cardstock. I colored the digi with my Prismacolor colored pencils and once done, returned him to the Silhouette to cut him out. I ran my Tombow marker along the end of the cut image and along the edge of the shadow matte before gluing them together.

I adhered the striped panel onto the orange panel and then added both to a white cardbase. I popped Romeo up with foam tape and placed him on the front of my card.
Be sure to check out the other digis that are in this month’s DT Specials section and also head over to enter your projects at the Scrapper’s Delights Challenge.

  1. Darling card, Monica. I'm amazed at your expertise at designing with your Silhouette. This digi image is so cute and you've colored him beautifully. I'm so impressed that you were able to make a cut file for him in your Silouette. Fancy! xo Nancy

  2. Ooh, the coloring is so beautiful. I love the shading on his skin. It's strange the things that first catch my eye. He is very cute. I always have a difficult time when I am on a design team that gives me a choice of a couple images. I am on one now where I honestly have not liked a single image that I have had to use. That ends in August, three more cards to go.

  3. Cute card Monica, lovelove the image and vthe shadow you designed. Colours are just great. Thanks for joining in on the Anything goes Challenge at the Happy Craft Challenge Community

  4. This is so sweet and yes, a great image for a mother's day card. I do like the directions of the stripes and never thought to rotate stripes, and it's a really nice effect. Thank you for sharing with us this month at Papercraft Business Challenge.

  5. This is a beautiful bright cheerful card. The papers compliment the image perfectly.
Thanks for playing along at 613 Avenue Create.
    Hugs Sheryl xx
