Mother’s Day

Today was Mother’s Day in the US. Happy Mother’s Day to all my blog friends who are mothers. I usually do something every year for the mothers in our small congregation and this year the Spellbinders May Small Die of the month kit was just the perfect starting point. These layered die cut flowers are beautiful.

I started out by cutting all the flowers and the leaves. That took me about two days of intermittent cutting. Then I spent some more evenings sitting on the couch chatting to hubby and gluing all the pieces together to build the flowers. I was so very pleased with the way they turned out.

I cut cardbases out of heavy white cardstock and then embossed the front with a frame die from a previous Small Die of the Month kit using an embossing mat. This added texture to the card, but no additional layer. Once done, I arranged the flowers at the bottom left hand corner, gluing them all down but popping the topmost one up with foam tape.

I recently was able to obtain a set of Quickutz alphabet dies in the Sonja font and so I used those to cut out the word Mom. I glued the “o” and the “m” together and then adhered the “M” and the “om” to the card.

To complete the card I created the black and white banner sentiment as well as the label and shadow shapes in Sihouette Studio then printed them and cut them out on my machine. I adhered the sentiment strip the the front of the card and the label with shadow to the inside and called the card completed.

Here is a pic of some of the cards lying together. Hubby handed them out prior to starting his sermon and the Moms loved them. So mission successful.
I am sure you will be seeing more cards with these flowers in the future. They are gorgeous and with a change up of cardstock used, very versatile.

  4. These are so beautiful, Monica! Sorry I haven't been commenting but I'm having serious shoulder problems and typing or texting is a huge problem until it all gets cleared up. 😀
