When Eagles Fly

The pastor of the little church that we are visiting with here in Tucson has a birthday this week. So I opted to be the card lady for a congregational card. I was a bit short on time and so visited Etsy to find some watercolor clipart of a flying eagle and was not disappointed.

I found the Bald Eagle Watercolor Clipart collection by Amalie Roepstorff. They are a good quality .png, so perfect to create cutlines in my Silhouette Studio. I designed my card in Silhouette Studio, making it a 5.5 x 8.5 inch size so that there would be plenty enough room for everyone to sign inside. I filled the rectangle with a a galaxy sky background digital paper from the Galaxy Backgrounds by PeDe Designs. I created another rectangle at 5.5 x 8.5 inches and created an internal offset. After selecting both the internal and the external rectangles, I used the subtract function to create a frame. Using the inner line of the frame as a path, I added the text around it on three sides.

After sizing and creating a cutline for the eagle clipart, I added an external offset to create a “halo” around it. I printed the background and the eagle on separate sheets of white cardstock so that I could cut them out separately. After having cut the prints out and running a black marker along the edge of the eagle cutout, I also cut the eagle’s offset in a light yellow glitter cardstock to help it pop off the dark background. I cut the frame twice out of brown cardstock and stuck the two together to make a sturdier frame. I added the frame to the edge of the cardpanel and then glued the cardpanel to the front of a white cardbase.

I glued the eagle to the glitter cardstock and then popped the eagle element onto my card with foamtape. The sentiment was cut with a Spellbinders die out of silver cardstock. I cut each word three times and glued them together for dimension.

Using another Spellbinders die, I cut the sentiment for the inside out of brown cardstock, leaving plenty of space for handwritten sentiments and blessings inside.
